”Artist in Schools”

The ceramic group piece created by the 4th class students of Holy Cross National School, Tramore under Waterford County Council’s Artist in Schools Scheme.
The pupils and teachers of the 4th classes in Holy Cross National School, Tramore, Co. Waterford recently completed Waterford County Council’s Artist in Schools Scheme .
Artist Maria Gallwey was the Artist in Residence in the school and they concentrated on a maritime theme for the project, with sea being an important part of the life of Tramore and Maria’s own artwork is highly influenced by the sea.
School Principal, John Kindlon welcomed the children and their families to a special exhibition in the school, where they showcased all the work done by the school during the residency. The school’s Arts Co-Ordinator Denise Keating thanked Waterford Co. Council and said that Maria Gallwey’s professionalism and manner of engaging with the children ensure that the school benefitted enormously from the residency. County Arts Officer, Margaret Organ congratulated the children on their work and creativity and acknowledged that the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon supports the countywide arts programming of the local authority.
Tramore Mayor Cllr. Paddy O’ Callaghan said that he was very proud to be asked to launch the exhibition, especially when the theme reflected the thinking behind the Tramore coat of arms and its motto Thalassa! Thalassa!, The Sea ! The Sea!
