This Friday and Saturday nights, November 6th and 7th, the Strand Theatre will play host to the Carrick Music Theatre Festival, in what promises to be a great weekend’s entertainment in a town synonymous with top-class productions.
The event will showcase some of Ireland’s best Musical Theatre talent on the Strand stage, as the four groups theatrically compete for the Dick Meany Perpetual Trophy (see Encore 8 for more on Dick Meany).
The Festival affords the competing societies with an opportunity to perform in front of a new audience, all in the name of entertainment, with the prospect of prizes on offer to boot!
This Friday night, November 6th, Carrick Musical Society will take to the stage, followed by Thurles Musical Society.
The following night, Saturday, November 7th, 2013 overall winners, Wexford Light Opera Society, take to the stage, and will be followed by The Broadway Session, led by John Ryan.
Thereafter it shall be up to adjudicator Tony Finnegan, to select the Festival’s individual winners and the overall winners of the Dick Meany Trophy, a beautiful prize sculpted by Seamus Gill, which was commissioned and donated by the Meany family.
On both nights, the Societies will retire to ‘Christy’s Lounge’ upstairs where they perform their respective cabaret acts for what ought to prove an entertaining weekend.
So why not enjoy two outstanding 50-minute shows each night, at only €16 or €28 for a two-night pass. Tickets are available now from the Strand Theatre (051-645050) or the Artisan Hub (051-640921; tudorartisanhub@gmail.com). You won’t be disappointed!
The Carrick Music Theatre Festival is supported by the Carrick-on-Suir Tourism Economic Development Committee (COSTEDC) and the Carrick-on-Suir Business Association (COSBA).
