3epkano return for Kilkenny workshops
Returning to Kilkenny following their sell-out performances annually since 2004, eclectic music ensemble 3epkano present an insightful afternoon to their music and film to include a lecture, workshop and Question and Answers series as well as a live music accompaniment to the 1929 film ‘Pandora’s Box’ at the Parade Tower, Kilkenny Castle, on Saturday 29th November from 1pm.
Any attentive filmgoer is aware of the enormous power music holds in shaping the film experience, manipulating emotions and point of view, and guiding perceptions of characters, moods, and narrative events.
Some framing questions in the current study of film music to be addressed on the day are: Why do films have music? What constitutes good film music? How should the evolution of film music be historicised, and what can a theoretically informed history of film music reveal? This lecture will be followed at 1:45pm with a full band demonstration of how 3epkano go about scoring a scene.
Wrapping up events on the day is a Q&A Series lead by Polish-born Piotr Sadowski. Piotr has lived in Ireland since 1991, and has taught literature, history of film, and linguistics in various third-level institutions in Dublin.
Tickets: Full Day €20; Film ‘Pandora’s Box’ and Q&A ONLY €12 / €10
