The Nativity

nativity1“Jesus, Mary and Joseph!” Debbie Isitt’s Nativity has plenty of love and laughs to keep get the whole family into the festive spirit.

Paul Maddens (Freeman) is a grumpy and frustrated primary school teacher. When his girlfriend Jennifer (Jensen) leaves him to become a movie producer in L.A. all he has left in his life is his dog ‘Cracker’.

Against his wishes, he is given the task of directing the school play and competing with the posh rival school Oakmoor for the best Nativity.

He fibs that Jennifer is coming back to film the school play, and soon the whole town hears the exciting news.

With his teaching assistant Mr. Poppy (Wooton) fuelling the little white lie, Mr. Maddens finds himself at the centre of every ones Christmas wishes. With much needed help from the childish and funny Mr. Poppy, they manage to go against the odds to make a fun and cheeky Nativity.

With many funny moments such as the hospital visit and the school auditions, along with the hilarious performances by the child actors and Alan Carr who plays the local newspaper critic, the Nativity proves to be very heart-warming and extremely funny.

Unfortunately the film tends to drag on in places and some scenes seem unnecessary. Other than that, the film is very cute and touching and defiantly worth watching.
