12 Days of Christmas @ Electric Avenue
Electric Avenue has a fantastic line-up of 12 BIG GIGS over the two weeks of Christmas with The Blizzards, The Irish Pink Floyd, Slam (DJs) and The Australian Peal Jam the latest to announce Xmas dates at the John Street Venue. Also the second annual Electric Avenue NYE Ball continues the tradition of last year, by putting on two Waterford bands that won National Live Music awards in 2008, Gorbachov and Floyd Soul & The Wolf. The Electric Avenue “12 Days Of Xmas” now lines up as follows:
Fri 19 Dec
The much loved Australian Pearl Jam make another visit to Electric Avenue to keep Eddie Vedder’s many Waterford fans happy with a two hour tribute. Support comes from the unique So Cowwhile upstairs in the Loft, Untz throw their Xmas Party with a line-up of residents and special guests playing the usual fantastic blend of techno, acid, jungle and dubstep.
Sat 20 Dec
There is no better band to have on the last Saturday before Christmas than local legends The Jam Tarts. Expect the lads to lift the roof once again with a much anticipated return to the Avenue. Up in the Loft, much respected local techno promoters, Electric Circus, throw their Xmas bash.
Sun 21 Dec
The Stone Roses Experience are back at The Avenue on the last date of their Irish Tour. There is no better tribute act on the live circuit today and the lads will as usual belt out fantastic versions of “Fools Gold”, “Waterfall”, “This Is The One”, “I Am The Resurrection” and all the rest to a capacity crowd.
Mon 22 Dec
Hard Rock legends Tasc reform for a special Xmas gig, as interest in this Waterford band from the 80s is re-ignited by their inclusion in Brian Kennedy’s “50/50″ book about Waterford bands over the decades. Who remembers seeing the lads support Def Leppard in Kate Reilly’s Kitchen ? Support on the night comes from Trousersnake.
Tue 23 Dec
After three sell-out shows in Dublin, The Last Waltz Tribute by The Group makes it’s debut trip down the country. This show is a 30th anniversary recreation of the greatest gig of all time, the farewell performance by The Band and guests including Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, Joni Mitchell and many more.
Wed 24 Dec
There is only one place to spend Xmas Eve before you depart for home to wrap up the pressies. Waterford’s legendary Sleep Jam Session has been packing them in every Wed night for nearly a decade now. The lads will play a two hour show from 7pm and we might even get a couple of Santa suits for them !
Fri 26 Dec
It’s Stephen’s Day which means only one thing…Republik will host their annual House Party with Fish Go Deep. This year the show is even BIGGER with international guests The Littlemen up in the Loft and a Techno party in the Mezz to compliment the Cork legends’ set in Electric Avenue.
Sat 27 Dec
The Irish Pink Floyd does exactly what it says on the tin. They arrive with a big PA, lights and visuals and play a near perfect two and a half hour set of Floyd classics for all you Crazy Diamonds. Not to be missed and we can all raise a glass to Syd and Rick.
Sun 28 Dec
Ireland’s best live band is back as The Blizzards end a remarkable year with a whistle-stop Tour of their favourite Irish venues. With a double-platinum 2nd album to celebrate, you can be sure Bressie and the lads will be in great form. We expect this one to sell out well in advance so don’t delay in getting your ticket @ BPM.
Tue 30 Dec
Neville Staple’s June gig at The Avenue was our favourite show of 2008 and the Ska legend is back with his band to play another great show of classic tracks by The Specials, FunBoy 3 and other cool ska tunes. This one is for all you Rude Boys & Girls. DJ Tony Hennessy will be playing all the BIG Ska tunes before & after the gig.
Wed 31 Dec
It’s the second annual NYE Ball @ Electric Avenue with live sets by Gorbachov who won the National Murphy’s Live Award this Year, and Floyd Soul & The Wolf who had similar success in 2008 as winners of the National Students Live Award. The Loft will feature a line-up of top class house & techno DJs and fancy dress is recommended for all.
Fri 2 Dec
Resistance celebrates it’s 6th Birthday with a four hour set by Techno Legends Slam who have been regular guests for Resistance over the years. Orde and Stuart will also be celebrating the 10th anniversary of their infamous “Pressure” night in Glasgow, for which they have produced a special Mix CD given away free with this month’s Mixmag.
