Finghin Collins returns to City Hall
One of Ireland’s most successful musicians, Finghin Collins studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music with John O’Conor and at the Geneva Conservatoire. Winner of the RTE Musician of the Future Competition in 1994 and the Classical Category at the National Entertainment Awards in 1998, he took first prize at the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in Switzerland in 1999. He has developed a busy international career that takes him all over Europe, the United States and Asia.
Finghin has performed with many orchestras including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Houston Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra garnering consistent praise from critics and public alike. In August 2008 he made his début at the BBC Proms in London, performing Stanford’s Second Piano Concerto with the Ulster Orchestra conducted by Kenneth Montgomery. In November he made his début at the Korea International Music Festival and also completed a major recital tour of Korea with cellist Han-Na Chang. He has collaborated with many of the best known national and international chamber music ensembles and his recordings have received glowing reviews in the international press. He is Artist in Residence at WIT and Artistic Director of the New Ross Piano Festival and is very popular with audiences in City Hall.
The programme which will also be performed in Virginia USA and in the NCH Dublin comprises Bach Partita No. 2 in C minor, Schumann Six Intermezzi Op. 4, Brahms Three Intermezzi Op. 117, and Schumann Faschingsschwank aus Wien Op. 26.
Entrance is via the Theatre Royal, come early and also enjoy the Municipal Art Collection now on display in the public area.
