White rimmed sunglasses, bright coloured t-shirts and funky beats set the scene at Phil grimes on Wednesday night where the audience was transported back to the 80’s by electronica outfits Fighting Spiders and Neosupervital.

The gig, which was part of the Irish Beats Sessions that continues for two consecutive weeks at the Johnstown bar, was recorded and produced by students attending the Entertainment Systems degree course at WIT. MC for the night, Beat 102 103’s Rob O’Connor will be broadcasting the finished product this Sunday on his Irish Beats radio show.

The audience was wowed by both acts with Fighting Spiders hitting the stage first. Half of the local four-piece electronica/indie band took to the stage with an energy that only added to a performance that gained loud cheers from the audience between tracks. Their hypnotising beats transported the listeners to another decade with the help of a captivating LED display showing ‘Fighting Spiders’ on the sound hole of lead singer Ashley Sheehan’s guitar. A 30-minute set of catchy melodies and up-tempo beats left the crowd hungry for more.
