Traditional music group Dílse have qualified to gain a much coveted place amongst the finalists of Siansa Gael Linn. This competition, organised by Gael Linn and supported by RTE Radio na Gaeltachta, aims to provide a platform for young traditional music/singing groups. Aged between 13 and 16, Dílse were the only group selected from Munster and will compete against seven other talented ensembles from around Ireland in the final at the National Concert Hall.
Dílse, meaning loyal, comprises local musicians Rebecca McCarthy-Kent, Tramore (Fiddle/Concertina); Seán Kearney, Dungarvan (Box/Guitar); Sarah O’Mahony, Ballyduff Upper (Vocals/Piano), together with Sinéad O’Donoghue (Banjo/Mandolin), Ivanna McMahon (Harp/Bodhrán/Fiddle), Fergal Breen (Pipes/Flute) all from Co Clare and Mairéad Hickey, Cork (Fiddle/Concertina).
All are highly experienced performers, soloists and prizewinners in their own right. We wish Dílse the very best of luck in the forthcoming performance having earned their place in the finals of Siansa Gael Linn Competition 2010 in Dublin on the 25th of April. No doubt we will hear a lot more of this talented musical group in the future!
