Ronan Collins Showband Show
The Showband Show to top them all comes to Forum Waterford on Saturday March 13th. The host and compere of the show is RTE’s Ronan Collins. Ronan needs no introduction as he is one of the all time most popular presenters in the country. On the night Ronan will also sing his Tribute’s to Joe Dolan and Dickie Rock.
This unique show stars some of the people who were there from the beginning of this magical era, the great Paddy Cole, a founder member of The Capitol Showband, who dominated the Showband scene right through the 60’s with their big brassy sound and Paddy’s virtuoso Sax and Clarinet playing! Then we have Eurovision stars Tommy and Jimmy Swarbrigg. They performed for Ireland in 1975 and again in 1977. They had over 20 hit records throughout their career. Looking Through The Eyes Of A Beautiful Girl” If Ma Could See Me Now” It’s Nice To Be In Love Again” “That’s What Friends Are For” etc.
Another Eurovision favourite, performing on the night will be Sean Dunphy. The velvet voiced crooner was a huge hit when he went to The Eurovision Song Contest with “If I could choose” and still performing as good as ever today. Sean O ‘Dowd with his band “Ding a Ling” was undoubtedly the biggest drawing band in Ireland throughout the 70’s.
“You Are No Angel” was just one of his many hit records! The Conquerors Showband proved one of the greatest Showbands of them all and is still packing them in everywhere they go. The lovely and talented Lorraine McDonald is one of the brightest talents to emerge from the later days of the Showband Boom, a terrific vocalist and a multi-instrumentalist.
She brings glamour and glitz to this great show. It may be a while since he featured on the scene, but Art Supple, former Lead singer with The Victors Showband, still has a great big voice which can cover everything from Tom Jones to Englebert Humperdinck.
The show’s exciting finale is an ALL Cast Tribute to the Exciting Showband Era. The cast join up in a medley of songs from the exciting Showband Years! It will send you home with great memories of a magical time in Irish popular music!
