The River Valley Band
After wowing the crowds at this year’s Rhythm & Roots Festival in their home town of Kilkenny, The River Valley Band make their Waterford debut at Electric Avenue this Saturday 15th November. If you are a fan of The Band and early Bob Dylan / Neil Young , you will love the music of this 5 piece “built on the sound of deep American folk music subtly updated with the tones of modern Ireland”. With a great debut album “Drunk In The Wine Cellar” already released and a growing live reputation around the country, The River Valley Band land at Electric Avenue this Saturday at 11pm for a free showcase gig.
Consisting of five Kilkenny born persons, The River Valley Band meet every week under a glassblower’s roof and toil away while the country sleeps to churn their creamy tunes to butter. They are none of them trained, none with recognised powers, but they have life in them that the land seems to otherwise drain from people. They are free and so is their music and that’s an ingredient that can’t be grown or sprinkled in. Lead singer Danny Coady has an energy in his voice that can move from frightening the wild to touching the heart with a tilt of his head, and at his right hand side is Conor Brett, who hits all the right notes on his guitar aided and abetted by mandolin, fiddle, piano, bass and drums for a live sound that transports you back to the early 1970s of Dylan, Young & The Band.
