Wexford Sinfonia’s winter concert in Waterford

WexfordSinfoniaThe Symphony Club of Waterford has just launched its 2010 programme and the first concert of the series will feature Wexford Sinfonia, conducted by Fergus Sheil, on Saturday 30th January at 8 p.m. in Christ Church Cathedral, Waterford.

Internationally acclaimed Wexford soprano, Sinéad Campbell-Wallace, will join with Wexford Sinfonia to perform Four Last Songs by Richard Strauss, the poignantly beautiful song cycle, written less than a year before his death, when he was eighty-four years of age, and which he never heard performed. The first item on the programme will be the most widely loved of all Smetana’s works, “The Moldau,” No 2 from the symphonic cycle Má vlast – a vivid portrait of Bohemia’s mighty river from source to end. The concert will end with Beethoven’s ever- popular Symphony No 6, “The Pastoral,” which was inspired by sounds the composer heard during long walks in the countryside – the calls of the nightingale, quail and cuckoo.

Tickets are €16 and €12 (concession) and are available on the door, Tel: 051-858958 (Christ Church Cathedral) or E Mail: info@scow.ie

Wexford Sinfonia will also give a performance Sunday 31st January in Clonard Church, Wexford at 4 p.m.
