Summer in the City 2014

e4s1 pic 1THE city is bracing itself for an entertainment explosion this summer with a host of top class music and entertainment shows taking place on the streets every weekend from June 6 to August 30.

The whole thing kicks off on Friday, 6th June with live music on John Robert’s Square at 4pm by the Aslan Duo. The twosome, who are currently touring big venues throughout the country, are led by Billy McGuinness, who many people will remember for his feud with Linda Martin on the Late Late Show recently. The Aslan Duo kick off what’s going to be a regular slot that will also feature top class tribute shows such as Garth Brooks, Elvis Presley and Neil Diamond, every Friday, 4-6pm.

On Saturday lunchtime, the kids can enjoy a host of great entertainment such as puppet shows, balloon modelling and discos. That will be followed each week be a live local band, who will perform on John Robert’s Square from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. That will start with Rubber Soul who kick off the Saturday afternoon shows on 7th June.

After the afternoon excitement in John Robert’s Square, the attention will shift to Bailey’s New Street for Art Beat, a series of hour-long musical gigs run by the folks behind Red Kettle Sessions and in association with Waterford Council. This free, family- orientated open air music gig will take place between 4.30pm and 5.30 pm each Saturday and feature over 15 different bands and musicians on a purpose built stage at the back of Greyfriars and the Munster Bar. Art Beat kicks off with Kevin Power and Robert Doherty on June 7th at 4.30pm.
