Writer Sean Ryan of Slieverue was a guest of honour at the New York premiere of a film shot which he scripted.

‘Too Good to be True’ is a comic tale of mistaken identity and follows the exploits of Max, played by Gary Silberman, a family man about to embark on a business trip with his hard to deal with boss Phil, played by Joe Marino. Before that trip even begins, Charlie, played by Dominick Mancino, the local mob boss is concerned about his daughter’s engagement to Phil. He hires Kate, played by Kat Murello, to test his soon-to-be son-in-law’s faithfulness to his daughter during this business trip.

Sean made contact with producer Gary Silberman over the internet after reading a note seeking a screenwriter. Gary and Sean ‘talked’ via email, Skype and Facebook, which led to Sean developing the script which has now been completed as a 38-minute short film. The final cut of the film was screened for the first time at the Anthology Film Archives in New York.

“This short comedy-cum-drama or ‘dramedy’ as it is known these days is the resulting work of this transatlantic collaboration,” Sean says.

“The response and reactions to the film were amazing, with many viewers saying that they wanted more and that they also wanted to know what happened next to the characters. As a writer you can’t really ask for better than that, when people not only enjoy the finished product but actually want to see more,” he added

The team plans to screen the film on the American, Irish and European film festival circuits this year. It is likely that local people will get to see it during the 2010 Waterford Film Festival.

Sean is currently working on a feature film called “Ca$hing In” with the same team which made ‘Too Good to be True’ and he also has independent features, shorts and commercials in various stages of production in numerous locations, including Switzerland, Detroit, Los Angeles, Mexico, New Jersey, Florida, Canada, California, Brooklyn NY, England, South Africa, Cupertino, San Diego, Boston and Portugal as well as Ireland.

Sean says that his experience has shown him that not all projects get off the ground or make it to the final cut, but occasionally a series of fortunate coincidences enable a project to reach the finish line.

“I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved with this film and I’m excited about the possibilities that the future has to offer,” he says.

‘Too Good to be True’ is a joint production of BlueCast Productions and CityPulse Productions. See www.citypulse.tv/tgtbt/
