The Lonesome West
Two feuding brothers who fight over everything and anything, Coleman and Valene have just buried their father. One is only interested in his religious ornaments and drinking poìtìn and the other is only interested in eating and attending funerals to collect free sausage rolls! Their constant provoking of each other often develops into a cartoonish violence which further distresses the already melancholic young local priest, Father Welsh. A schoolgirl poìtìn seller completes the complex and intriguing four member cast.
Part of Martin McDonagh’s Connemara trilogy which includes The Beauty Queen of Leenane and A Skull in Connemara, The Lonesome West is required reading on the Leaving Cert English curriculum for 2011 and 2012. All three plays depict the shocking and murderous goings-on in the fictional Connemara town of Leenane, where violence and cruelty is casual and habitual.
Waterford’s Bowler Hat Theatre Company is delighted to present this vicious black comedy from award winning and internationally renowned Irish playwright Martin McDonagh. Running from Tuesday 7th to Saturday 11th September at Theatre Royal Waterford. Preview nights from €10 and tickets are online at www.theatreroyal.ie or through the booking office on 051 874402.
