A PACKED function room in the ‘Rising Sun’ in Mullinavat was recently treated to an exceptional and diverse presentation of entertainers organised by the local Comhaltas group and held in hour of the late Tony Power of Breanor, Piltown.
Tony passed away in a hunting accident some years ago. He was a talented musician and left a rich legacy behind him. To honour that and to mark the great assistance he gave to local charities and to Comhaltas and Irish traditional musical functions in general, this memorial concert was presented with proceeds going to the Hospice and M.S. Foundations locally.
The organisers were very satisfied with the event which was graced by dancers, singers, sean nós dancers and singers, musicians etc from Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford including Strange Fruit, set-dancers from Mooncoin, Comhaltas Og musicians from Mullinavat ,Power family and friends, Raglan Rogues, Willie Delaney and friends, musician and singers comprising of Tom Roche, Ml O Shea, Peter and Larry Power, Eilish Kenneally, Ollie Lynch, Pascal Power, Mick McNamara also featured M.C. Fear an Tí Tomás McEvoy.
It was indeed a fitting and appropriate way of honouring Tony Power, musician and friend to many. At the event the Comhaltas branch in Mullinavat congratulated Ailísh Conneely, Mooncoin who won Senior Piano and Piano Accordion in the Kilkenny County Fleadh-Cheoil and to Amber Laherty who won the under 12 whistle both members of Mullinavat Branch of Comhaltas. We wish them both every success in the Leinster Fleadh/Cheoil in Ballymahon Longford in July.
