WHAT (the Waterford Healing Arts Trust) is delighted to welcome John Conway to University Hospital Waterford as the 2014 Artist in Residence.

Originally from Kildare, John graduated from the National College of Art and Design in Dublin with an Honours Degree in Fine Art Sculpture in 2013. He has previously participated in residencies in Bucharest and Reykjavik. His art practice which spans performance, installation, sculpture and video has been exhibited both nationally and internationally.

During his forthcoming residency John will be based in a studio space in the WHAT Centre for Arts and Health in the grounds of University Hospital Waterford. He hopes to work with patients of reduced / restricted mobility on projects that creatively explore their path to remobilisation as well as projects that involve the transient body of service users within the hospital. He will host a special once-off workshop on the theme of ‘super foods’ as part of the forthcoming Well Festival of Arts and Wellbeing which WHAT will bring to Waterford in partnership with Garter Lane Arts Centre. It is envisaged that the artistic outcomes of this residency will emerge from John’s immersion in the hospital environment and his artistic responses to this experience.

For further information or to organise an interview with John, phone Mary Grehan at 051 842664 or email
