Garda Inspector Assaulted Outside City Nightclub

A Garda Inspector was assaulted in an incident outside a night club in Waterford, the District Court heard last week.
Adrian Burkowski (21) of Priory Lane, New Ross pleaded guilty to assaulting Inspector Larry Sheehan at John Street, Waterford, on November 27th, 2015.
The court heard that Inspector Sheehan was on duty and encountered the defendant who was refused entry to a night club. The defendant was directed to leave the area but he struck out and hit Inspector Sheehan on the forehead. No lasting damage was done.
Solicitor Hilary Delahunty, defending, said his client apologised for his action. The night club bouncers would not allow the defendant’s friend into the club and claimed his travel documents were forged. He became aggressive when the Gardaí said the documents were none of their business. A small issue escalated, he said.
Judge Kevin Staunton said a custodial sentence normally applied for an assault on a Garda and adjourned the matter for 12 months.
