CAMPAIGNERS calling for the provision of 24/7 cardiac care at University Hospital Waterford (UHW) are to step-up their activities ahead of the general election.
Newly designed leaflets are due to be launched this week which highlight the need for the 24/7 service in Waterford and the South-East.
Campaigners plan to target key locations within the region throughout the coming weeks in order to increase awareness and ensure the issue remains high on the political agenda.
Meanwhile, the hospital group which was formed as a result of last year’s meeting on issues involving UHW (held in the Granville Hotel) has committed to the campaign for 24/7 cardiac care.
The group, which is chaired by Paddy Condon, was formed to address various problems involving UHW but will now specifically focus on highlighting the cardiac issue.
Since first raising the issue in early 2014, Willie Doyle and fellow campaigners have succeeded in ensuring that the campaign for 24/7 cardiac care at UHW has become a major political issue.
The leaflets which are to be distributed ask all living within the region to demand answers from their TDs and councillors as to why the service has not yet been provided for Waterford and the South-East.
