Fight Like Apes

The “Friday Club” at Electric Avenue has been a “must play” gig for the country’s best new alternative indie/electronic acts over the last few months. Delorentos, The Flaws, Humanzi, Channel One, Giveamanakick, Dark Room Notes, The Kinetiks and Kopek are amongst those who have performed to a full Avenue. Between now and the end of the year, there are many more great acts coming to play for John Street’s live music heads and on NYE The Friday Club proudly presents a massive 3 band bill with Waterford’s own alternative legends, Dae Kim, Saviours Of Space and Ilya K playing together on the same bill for the very first time.

First up the 2fm 2moro 2our of Ireland visits Electric Avenue on Friday 16th November . The 3 co-headline acts on the tour are David Geraghty (Bell X1), Concerto for Constantine (consisting of Mark Greaney of JJ72, Gavin Fox of Idlewild/Turn, and Binzer of The Frames/Halite/Mundy) and Kells band, Ham Sandwich. This very exciting line-up will be joined by local act Siam Collective who won the competition to open the show. Tickets for the gig are absolutely free by logging on to or by popping down to BPM Records who have a very limited number available.

On Friday 23rd November, the hottest new alternative act in the country, Fight Like Apes return to the Avenue with co-headliner The Coronas. The “Apes” have just released their new E.P. titled “David Carradine is a Bounty Hunter Whose Robotic Arm Hates Your Crotch”. Lead track “Do You Karate” features the wonderful Maykay on lead vocals over their trademark twin-synth attack. Debut single “Jake Summers” singled them out as THE band to watch in 2007 and several manic gigs around the country have only added to that reputation. Fresh from the success of their first 2 top twenty singles, The Coronas are back with their new single “San Diego Song” from their stunning debut album “Heroes and Ghosts” . A recent string of gigs in the Village, two sold out shows in Whelan’s, and a spellbinding set on the 2nd stage at Oxegen, has seen this indie four-piece take the Irish music scene by storm. With influences including Jeff Buckley and the Beatles, the past year has seen The Coronas enjoy rave reviews, sign a record deal, and enjoy massive regional and national radio airplay.

On Friday 30th November, Messiah J & The Expert headline a massive hip-hop line-up at the Avenue with support from the UK’s Possessed and Respek BA plus local acts Maverick, Correkt Minds and Siam Collective. Delorentos are back at Electric Avenue on Thursday 6th December, having named it as their favourite Irish venue during an interview on Today FM this week to launch fab new single “Do You Realise”. And finally tickets are available in advance at BPM Records, Sinnotts, and through Ticketmaster for that amazing NYE line-up featuring Dae Kim, Saviours Of Space and Ilya K.
