There have been further reports that University Hospital Waterford (UHW) may be split from Cork and return to being the South-East’s headquarters for health services. A plan being drawn up by the Sláintecare health reform office would see a Regional Integrated Care Organisation (RICO) established for the South East.
This would involve breaking up the South/South West Hospital Group, which currently sees Cork University Hospital (CUH) as the lead for the group. The Sunday Business Post has reported that the RICOs will be geographically aligned with Community Healthcare Organisations (CHO) to promote a population-based approach to planning and delivery for healthcare.
