Lotto smiles for B+L syndicate!
Michelle Clancy reports
Twelve past and present Bausch + Lomb workers are to share in last Saturday’s Lotto jackpot of €2,578,134.
The syndicate, who have been playing the Lotto together for 16 years, bought their lucky ticket in the Spar in Ferrybank on Saturday afternoon, with an €8 Normal Play ticket.
The winning syndicate is composed of current and former workers on the RP3 C shift at B+L, some of whom took a redundancy package but continued to pay their Lotto ‘subs’ for the lotto draw, will each receive €214,844
Syndicate member Alan Smyth couldn’t believe his eyes when he checked the ticket, at around 10.45pm on Saturday.
He said he first rang his wife and told her to “get home quick” and then began contacting his colleagues, who thought he was pulling their leg.
“I rang one girl at around 11, I got her up out of bed and she didn’t believe me,” he said. “But I went out to her house and we checked the ticket there again so I started ringing the rest of them and they didn’t believe me either, they kept saying ‘you’re messing’!”
