Knockhouse to the GPO 1916: a Family Journey
As we approach the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising, this informal history talk intends to explore some of the Waterford links to Ireland’s struggle for independence.
The talk will be given by Ollie Breslin who is well known in local arts circles. “My interest began initially through a school project by my daughter on her family history,” said Ollie.
“The historical involvement of my extended family captured my imagination and so began my research. From my own amateur perspective I will trace links through the Corrigan family to the well known local families of the Phelans and Wyse Powers and their lesser known connections to this important period in Irish history. There will be plenty of tales along the way with stories on James Connolly, O’Donovan Rossa and even James Joyce – so I’ll be trying to make it interesting for the layperson.”
The talk takes place on Tuesday, March 1st at 7.30pm at St Patrick’s Gateway Centre, Patrick Street (just below Ballybricken Garda Station). Admission is free
