Carrick site purchase is of public concern

Dear Editor,

I refer to the detailed article which appeared in last week’s edition with regard to the proposed Carrick-on-Suir bypass, and the one point within it that proved of particular concern.

South Tipperary VEC spent taxpayers’ money on considerably more land than they needed to build a school knowing that the land purchased may be in the path of a new bypass.

They purchased this land before the public consultation phase on the preferred route was complete.

As a member of the public, I would like to ask Fionnuala McGeever of the VEC why they purchased this site given that if it is located in a sterilised route corridor they will find it difficult to obtain planning permission for the proposed school.

One would think that the sensible thing to do was to wait until the route was finalised including public consultation before finalising the purchase.
