ANOTHER year over, a new one’s just begun and all that. So here we are, 2015. A New Year. A time to refl ect, review and, as we tend to do in Waterford when it comes to hurling, a time to hope.
So what of 2014? For me, it was a good one, not a great one, and not that great for our inter-county teams. Any year that’s devoid of a Munster crown is not good. Our senior hurlers were relegated
from the top fl ight of the National Hurling League while their sole championship victory came at home to Laois in the opening round of the qualifiers. The Deise’s Under-21 hurlers did little to lift the general gloom when surrendering at Walsh Park to an unfancied Cork side while our minor hurlers had a useful if ultimately unsuccessful year, recording narrow victories against Clare (twice) before eventually losing a replay to Limerick in the Munster Final.
