Aldi opened its new store in Ardkeen on Thursday last, its fifth outlet in Waterford city and county, creating 20 new jobs in the process.
The store’s opening was very well-attended, with a gas barbeque proving particularly popular with early morning shoppers, with kids also enjoying face painting, balloon modelling, music and games provided by Beat 102-103’s ‘Beat Fleet’.
And with breakfast treats served to the visiting public that morning, a good opening day was clearly enjoyed by all, with five shoppers taking home €100 shopping vouchers.
“We are delighted to open our new Ardkeen store and look forward to welcoming many new customers from the local area,” said store manager Donncha Buckley.
“Each Aldi store we have opened so far has been a fantastic success and we are looking forward to serving the local community.”
Aldi has established deep roots across in many communities, and is proud of the long standing partnerships it has developed with a range of Irish producers, and since 2008, has almost doubled its number of Irish suppliers.
These include Glen Fruits (Dungarvan), which supplies Aldi with fresh Irish strawberries and renowned Knockanore cheesemaker Eamonn Lonergan, who produces the company’s Specially Selected Oakwood Smoked Cheddar Cheese.
All of Aldi’s fresh meats, fresh poultry, eggs, bread, flour, and many of its teas, coffees, soft drinks, waters and snacks are provided by leading Irish suppliers.
Last Thursday’s opening in Ardkeen brings Aldi’s number of Irish stores to 117, the first of which opened in late 1999.
