Cuidiú and HSE Host Public Coffee Morning to Launch Service
Services for breastfeeding mothers in the Waterford area are to be expanded as five new breastfeeding counsellors complete their training with Cuidiú-The Irish Childbirth Trust. The launch will be marked by a public coffee morning jointly hosted by Cuidiú and the HSE on Friday, October 10 at the Farronshoneen Youth & Community Centre, Ardkeen, Waterford (adjacent to Waterford Credit Union).
Breastfeeding is the best and most natural form of infant nourishment, but it is not without its challenges. Most mothers need some level of support to get breastfeeding off to a good start and for as long as they continue to breastfeed their babies.
The five Cuidiú-trained counsellors, all breastfeeding mothers themselves, have completed a year-long course of study. Starting from October 16, they will be involved in running a fortnightly support group aimed at pregnant and breastfeeding mothers and taking phone calls from mothers seeking help.
Cuidiú, meaning “caring support,” is a national organisation, providing parent-to-parent support through pregnancy, birth, and parenthood. The coffee morning on October 10 runs from 11 a.m. to 12. 30 p.m. and will include a brief address, followed by tea/coffee and finger food. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.
