On Friday night last at approximately 10.50pm, two individuals wearing balaclavas hacked in the main front door of the Sean Kelly Sports Centre, smashed an inside glass door and gained access to the office section of the premises.

While in the building they caused a huge amount of damage including CCTV cameras and tried unsuccessfully to break in to a safe.

The alarm had activated as soon as the front door was opened and that limited their time in the building. They took the Reception till which was closed but there was nothing in it.

Staff members and the Garda were quickly on the scene and on the following day a Gardaí Technical Crew completed a thorough examination of the scene.

Carrick-on-Suir Rugby Club also suffered a break-in over the weekend at its Tybroughney playing grounds, from where its boiler and 500 litres of fuel were stolen.
