A large Waterford contingent travelled to Dublin last Saturday for Right2Water’s national demonstration against the imposition of water charges in O’Connell Street.
Four coaches organised by the Waterford Right2Water campaign departed the city on Saturday morning, with many more local protestors travelling up by public transport or car, according to organiser Tommy Hogan.
There were banners from the Waterford Council of Trade Unions as well as communities across Waterford, with plenty of Deise flags flying.
“Coaches came from communities across the country,” Mr Hogan told The Munster Express.
“This turnout is a huge rebuff for the Fine Gael/Labour Government. They believed they could wait this movement out-giving temporary concessions and pushing the bills back to April and that we would run out of steam.
“This is the biggest mass movement in recent Irish history and continues to bring enormous numbers of people onto the streets.”
