Call for replacement of Bonmahon Health Centre
A renewed call for the provision of a new public health centre in Bonmahon has been voiced by Cllr. Ger Barron and Deputy Brian O’Shea.
The present building, on a steep rise at the entrance to the seaside village, has had some improvements carried out but the two politicians still regard it as totally unsuitable and unacceptable as a modern health centre.
The flight of steps to the centre make it very difficult for elderly and incapacitated people to gain entry. “Certainly only those in the whole of their health would find it anything but difficult to get into this place”, said long time Labour Deputy O’Shea.
It was conceded by the HSE to Deputy O’Shea last year that the centre has insurmountable access problems.
At Cllr. Barron’s request, the Deputy has put down a Dail question to Health Minister Mary Harney on the subject.
“The people of Bonmahon and surrounding areas have been waiting a totally unacceptable length of time for a proper modern health centre appropriate to the needs of all the community”, commented Cllr. Barron.
