Christ Church staff grateful for public support since break-in
The Dean of Christ Church Cathedral, along with its staff and congregation has thanked the people of Waterford for its rallying support following the break-in and robbery at the Cathedral on July 28th.
Dean Trevor Lester said he was consoled by “the huge amount of goodwill and support from the people of Waterford and indeed from further afield” since the robbery.
“We have received many letters, emails and phone calls from people who are concerned about the cathedral and seeking ways in which to help,” he added.
While (thankfully) there was little cash in the building at the time, the robbers caused considerable damage to the building, leaving five holes in its original 1779 ceiling.
Debris from the largest hole created by the thieves fell into several pipes of the Cathedral’s magnificent organ, rendering it out of musical operation until November at the very earliest.
The break-in and subsequent damage at Christ Church has catalysed a raft of offers to support the Cathedral which regularly houses well-supported concerts and photo exhibitions.
The Waterford Omagh Peace Choir, who performed there to such acclaim on July 4th, has offered to stage a fundraising concert later this year. Details on when that shall be held will be announced on a future date.
“This is just one example of the kind of response we have received,” added Dean Lester, who re-iterated his, the staff and the congregation’s gratitude for the many good wishes they have received.
