City shops counting cost of cash scam
In recent months, several Waterford shops have been targeted through a new scam believed to be costing some of them hundreds of euro per week.
Speaking with local store managers, this newspaper believes it to be the most tactical and successful scam undertaken in Waterford city for several years.
A local Spar store in the city recently fell victim to the scheme. Two males entered the shop and made a small purchase.
When the member of staff opened the till to issue the change for the original purchase, one of the males also presented a number of €50 notes, also asking for change of these particular notes.
