Community Drug Awareness launch
The August 2008 Community Drug Awareness Events will be launched at Waterford City Council Central Library today, Wednesday at 6pm by the Mayor, Cllr Jack Walsh.
This initiative which will include an information display and a series of workshops has been organised by the Library Service and the Waterford City and County Community Based Drugs Initiatives.
The Community Based Drugs Initiatives provide a range of locally based and accessible supports for parents, families and young people directly affected by substance misuse.
Throughout August there will be a drug awareness information display in the foyer of Central Library presenting information on factors associated with substance misuse, information on drug types and information regarding the supports available to parents, family, friends and people affected by these issues. There will also be a quiz competition and a questionnaire to encourage feedback from the public about the challenges they face and to suggest solutions for the future.
Workshops for parents and those interested in issues relating to substance misuse will be held each Wednesday in Central Library throughout the month of August.
The workshops which will include demonstrations of auricular acupuncture will provide information and facts on the types of drugs and the signs and symptoms of drug abuse.
