Council drops open space grass-cutting

A grass-cutting service and the maintenance of public open spaces will not be provided by Waterford County Council on housing estates taken-in-charge by the local authority, it was agreed at a meeting of the County Council in Dungarvan this week.

But the Council will provide maintenance of roads, parking areas, fire hydrants, drainage wastewater treatment plants, playgrounds and public lighting on estates.

Acting Director of Services, Paul Daly, said, in future, grass cutting would be the responsibility of tenants and residents’ associations should be formed to manage that function. The matter was discussed at the Dungarvan and Tramore Electoral Area Committees and no objections were raised.

The Council adopted a schedule of services to be provided on estates taken-in-charge and it was stressed that efforts would be made to maintain the listed services to an acceptable standard.

However, a warning was sounded that services might have to be curtailed having regard to the finance and manpower resources available to the Council.
