Council ordered stop to Woodstown beach development

Woodstown-DunesWaterford County Council has moved to stop the establishment of a mobile home ‘stand’ in the sand dunes on Woodstown Breach where a site was cleared and fenced off without planning permission.

The development on the Dunmore East side of The Gap entrance to the popular beach surprised locals and day visitors to the area and the phones of local councillors have been hopping.

The clearing of the site took place in mid-August and has been brought to the notices of the staff of the Planning Authority of Waterford County Council who were unaware of the development

An area of approximately 35 meters by 209 meters has been cleared of scrub and marran grass and surrounded by earth works and topped by a timber fence leaving about 5meters of dunes intact on the road side and the same on the beach. Access to the site was opened up from the adjoining road.

It is understood the Kilkenny-based person responsible owns land in the area and mistakenly believed his action was not breaching any regulations. Waterford County Council Planning Enforcement Officer, Ella Whelan, said she had been in contact with the person concerned who had readily agreed to reinstate the site.     tell him to go back to kilkenny and dig up there

    They should be fined and shown the full extent of the law, the planning legislation clearly states ignorance of the law is not excused.
