Countdown to 92nd Dungarvan Show
The weeks are counting down to the 92nd running of Dungarvan agricultural show which takes place on Thursday July 31st in Cappagh by kind permission of the Phelan and Buckley families. The Committee would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all our generous sponsors. Without the sponsorship and funding from both local business people and national institutions this traditional rural event could not take place.
This year’s Show has all the usual events – Horse, Cattle & Sheep Classes. In the Broodmare Ring, the McCarthy family from the Beeches Stud, Tallow continue to sponsor a hotly contested Thoroughbred Broodmare class, while, in addition to this class, the valuable Goffs Sponsored All Ireland Thoroughbred Broodmare Final will also take place. In the Half-bred section, competition will be very strong for the Observer Cup.
There will be three Showjumping rings, which this year features a Grand Prix class which is sure to attract all the top riders. The pony riders and amateur riders are well catered for with a variety of competitions including a qualifier for the Munster Amateur Final.
The Cattle section is renowned for the quality of the exhibits and the Maher Memorial Cup and Radley Spire Trophy will be well contested. Once again the Glanbia sponsored Super Cow competition is a great attraction.
The Sheep section is well supported with the Boolattin Cup the most coveted Award.
Young and old
The Home Industries section caters for young and old with Baking Competitions, Flower Arranging and Art Competitions. Beautiful displays of Flowers and Vegetables will be on display in the Home Industries Tent. Keep a close eye on the local papers over the next few weeks for details of a bumper Colouring competition.
As a visitor to our Show you will be treated to a variety of Trade Stands where you can buy anything from a Tee-shirt to a Tractor!! This year we welcome the Lismore Farmers Market where you will be able to buy beautifully prepared Home Produce. The show will also feature the Gardai Mounted Horse division who will parade throughout the show-grounds.
The Inter-Hunt Chase always provides plenty of Thrills and Spills. Run under the auspices of the Dungarvan Harriers which were founded in 1945 teams representing Hunts throughout Munster and Leinster will compete over a course comprising cross-country style fences. This year’s event is a qualifier for the RDS Inter Hunt Chase final.
Macra na Feirme is an integral part of Dungarvan Show. The County Waterford Farm Efficiency Finals have attracted entries from Macra Clubs throughout the county.
