Striking CPSU workers in Waterford on Thursday.

Members of the Civil Public & Services Union working in Government Offices and agencies in Waterford embarked on a one-day strike yesterday (Thursday) against the Government’s imposition of pay cuts.

Pickets were mounted at government offices across the city including the Courthouse, Garda Station, Court Welfare offices and offices on the Cork Road as workers joined over 13,000 of their colleagues who were protesting countrywide.

Blair Horan, General Secretary said that lower paid CPSU members could not afford to have their pay reduced by 6% through a deferral of the pay deal plus an average pay cut of 6% on top of that with the pension levy. Members stood to lose between €40 to €60 a week that they simply could not afford, he said.
