Sunday last, February 3rd, 2008, marked the Dedication Eucharist of the Edmund Rice Chapel, Barrack Street, Waterford.

Edmund Rice is close to the heart of the City of Waterford where he set up his first school in the late 1800’s.

The new Chapel is of modern design and incorporated our Celtic heritage and uses stainedglass and woodwork to great effect.

The chief celebrant at the dedication was Bishop William Lee, Bishop of Waterford and Lismore.

Master of Ceremonies was Fr. William Ryan, Parish Priest of the Holy Trinity Without.

Mary Teresa McCormack, RSM and Andy Kuppe with students from Waterford Secondary Schools: C.B.S. Mount Sion, Our Lady of Mercy Secondary School, Presentation Secondary School and Waterpark College performed Creative Movements during the ceremony.

Members of the Edmund Rice Choral Society provide Sacred Music for the occasion.

Words of thanks were expressed to the representative gathering by Fr. Michael Godfrey, Chair of Edmund Rice International Heritage Centres Ltd. Board and Deputy Congregation Leader of the Chrsitian Brothers.

The international congregation in Mount Sion comprises Christian Brothers and Presentation Brothers.
