Drink driving puzzle

New figures just released reveal that Waterford city has the joint lowest conviction rate for drink driving offences in the country. Of the 241 cases to come before the District Court in 2009, 75 per cent resulted in convictions.

The figures, issued by the Courts Service, show that 180 people were disqualified from driving in Waterford city in 2009. A total of 61 cases were either dismissed or struck out.

In the County Waterford/Tipperary/Cork courts, the conviction rate was 83%. The only other area in the country to register a 25% non conviction rate was Cavan/Monaghan. Overall, nationwide, 83 per cent of people prosecuted were convicted. Neighbouring Garda districts of Wexford and Carlow/Kilkenny recorded conviction rates at 88 per cent and 89 per cent respectively.

  1. Aidan O'Reilly Says:

If the police go round ballybeg every day,,, they will see that MOST of the drivers DONT even have a full drivers licence,,,

Ballybeg is known a best place to do what you want because if you call the police,,, they will tell you they are busy and will take 30-45 mins to get to you…

SO if the even had 2 officers on the cork road entrance to Ardmore terrace every night instead of sitting the the office WAITING for a call… BUT is that picking on the police !!!!

If the community were to stop these drivers, they will be charged for doing police work ha ha … but drink drinving is only caught IF the police are out there to catch them…

AND we do not want to hear the usual.. “no funds” they have more money than we have, and they dont call out when you need them.
