Fiftieth Waterford International Festival of Light Opera launched

Music fans are in for a treat as the Mayor of Waterford Councillor Mary Roche this week launched the impressive line-up for the 2010 Waterford International Festival of Music which will take place in the city from November 2 to 13.

The 2010 Waterford International Festival of Music programme will consist of the city’s fiftieth Waterford International Festival of Light Opera, a Gospel Festival, a High School Music Festival, a Fringe Festival and a number of other special music events all culminating in a fabulous ‘Oscar style’ finale Gala evening hosted by RTE’s Maura Derrane.

The twelve-day festival opens with West End Star Rebecca Storm taking to the stage on November 2. An evening of Italian Opera, seven nights of competitive light opera performances by a notable number of award winning productions including Seussical The Musical, Pirates of Penzance, Jekyll and Hyde, and Into the Woods. There is homage to the 80’s with The Wedding Singer, an Irish premiere of Spring Awakening and Sweeney Todd.

The two day Gospel Festival at Christchurch Cathedral and Waterford City Cathedral features The London Community Gospel Choir, The Dublin Gospel Choir and a number of other Irish Gospel Choirs hosting a series of master classes.
