New Prayer Group

A new group has come together in the parish for prayer and reflection. This group is to cater for those between 20 and 40 years, who in the midst of a busy world feel they need to create a reflective space for themselves. They may find themselves: busy in their careers, busy at college, busy in creating a home life etc. They may wish to reflect on their faith in Jesus, and on the direction that he is calling them in their living within the context of a group that offers support and mutual understanding. The group will meet each Thursday evening in the Sacred Heart Church at 8:00pm. All are welcome to attend. For further information contact Declan or Annmarie at 051-850022.

Spiritual Accompaniment

The Ministry of Spiritual Accompaniment can be understood as a means of two people whose desire is to prayerfully listen for the movement of the Spirit in all areas of a persons life. The focus is always on the action of the Spirit in our lives. It is a three way relationship: The Spirit, the person being accompanied and the person who listens and supports. This service is confidential. A trained person is available for Spiritual Accompaniment, Ms Denise Hughes. For further information about Spiritual Accompaniment make an appointment with Maria the secretary of the St. John’s Pastoral Centre, John’s Hill on 051-874199.

More Success for Noel

Congratulations to Noel Brown, Ursuline Court, who won first prize in the Historic Walled Photographic Competition 2007, which was organised by the Waterford City Council in conjunction with the Heritage Council. Noel picked up a very nice prize of €500 for his work, which will now go forward to the national competition which will be judged in November. We wish Noel the best of luck in this competition. Noel also took the runner-up position in the R.T.E Autumn Weather Photo Competition and his picture will be shown after the weather reports on R.T.E over the coming months. Noel’s entry for this competition was taken in the very beautiful and picturesque Colligan Woods, Co Waterford.

Amnesty Stand

The local Amnesty International group will be holding a pre-Christmas sale of good in the Ardkeen Quality Foodstore on Thursday, 8th November. This is your ideal opportunity of combining some Christmas shopping with supporting a good cause.

New Pedestrian Crossing

The new pedestrian crossing currently being installed at Upper Grange is much welcomed by residents in that area. It has become increasingly difficult to cross the road at this location due to the large increase in the volume of traffic using the road, coupled with the huge amount of residential development in the Williamstown Road area. The addition of a pedestrian crossing at Upper Grange should make it easier for people to cross the road, especially for the elderly.

Goodbye to the Salvage Shop

The news last week that the Salvage Shop here in the parish on the Airport Road was to close was met with a little sadness by many. It has traded here for many years and was a focal point on the Airport Road. Many locals often called in to look around the yard at all the various items which were on display, from old telephone kiosks, gates, cast-iron baths, bikes, stone, church furniture etc. The large paintings on the outside of the premises added a nice piece of colour to the entrance. The three acre site is now up for sale and could be used for other business ventures. All wish the Corcoran family the very best of luck with their proposed new art centre near Bunmahon.
