Further payouts to road contractors
Compensation related disputes are ongoing around the country, including across the South-East, between road builders and Iarnród Éireann.
Complaints have been lodged with local authorities by contractors regarding alleged delays by Iarnród Éireann in processing approval for bridge works.
Bam Civil Ltd., the consortium which built the M9 Waterford to Knocktopher road, has lodged a claim with Kilkenny County Council for €30 million.
The company cites alleged delays in reaching agreement for work on the Knockmoylan railway bridge.
Along with this, there an additional claim for compensation has been made relating to a crossing of the Dublin to Waterford railway line as part of the Carlow bypass.
In 2008, €7 million was granted in compensation due to delays in obtaining permission for the construction of a bridge over a rail line from Iarnord Eireann along the Kilcullen to Waterford N9/N10 route.
In total, the state is now facing claims of more than €100 million as a result of disputes between road builders and Iarnród Éireann.
