The Mayor of Waterford, Councillor John Halligan was the special guest at the recent launch of Friends of Holy Ghost, held in the well known residential home on the Cork Road.

This historic facility is home to sixty elderly residents and has existed in Waterford since 1545 when it was established to care for the elderly of Waterford under a Royal Charter granted by King Henry VIII. Today, the Holy Ghost Home is governed by a Board of Trustees, which includes the Mayor and four Senior Aldermen of the City Council.  The Holy Ghost Home provides residential care which promotes independence, self-care and healthy ageing in a home style environment.

The Friends of Holy Ghost aim to raise funds to improve facilities at the home and the inaugural coffee morning last week raised an impressive €1000. The coffee morning was attended by residents, family members, staff and supporters of the Holy Ghost community.  The Board of Trustees was represented by Councillor Hilary Quinlan, who welcomed the establishment of Friends of Holy Ghost in his address. Further fund raising events are already in planning, these include an Easter raffle and a Benefit Night in Alfie Hale’s Pub, Barrack Street on Saturday, 22nd May.
