Mayor launches Waterford Youth Walkers Programme

KidWalkersOn Friday, 8th October the Mayor of Waterford, Cllr. Mary Roche officially launched the Waterford Youth Walkers Programme in City Hall. This HSE funded programme is being co-ordinated by Waterford Sports Partnership in association with the Inner City Community Youth Project, Foroige Ferrybank Outreach Project, North Suburbs Community Youth Project & Ballybeg Community Youth Project.

The programme encourages young people, age 12 and over, to join up with their local youth walkers group and get active this winter. Four walking groups have been set up across the city; Brogue Busters in Ballybeg; Best Foot Forward (BFF) in Ferrybank, Grace Dieu Groovers & Manor Movers. The Youth Walkers programme offers young people a chance to get active, get fit, have fun & meet new people.

Launching the programme the Mayor said: “This is a great programme and hopefully it will help young people to develop walking as a habit. I see there are a lot of girls here, but I think this could be a great social opportunity for both boys and girls while doing something healthy at the same time.
