Mighty Mullins motors on

On fire. That’s the only way to describe the fortunes of Willie Mullins’ charges at present for the Closutton maestro sent out two winners at Sunday’s Thurles fixture, the last meeting before Christmas.
The highlight of Mullins’ double was the facile success of Pylonthepressure in the closing Curraheen (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race.
A facile point-to-point winner on his only previous start at Laurencetown in May, Pylonthepressure came into race with a lofty home reputation and the son of Darsi didn’t disappoint. The 2/5 shot always took the eye in running with Mullins’ son Patrick, eased to the front some five furlongs out ultimately accounting for Samson Bill by an unchallenged six and a half lengths.
Pylonthepressure will now run in a winners’ bumper and already, Mullins has him as a potential candidate for the Cheltenham festival bumper in March.
Lyrical Theatre initiated the Mullins two-timer in the Gift Horse Gallery Horse & Jockey Hotel Mares’ Maiden Hurdle.
Likewise the mount of Patrick Mullins, Lyrical Theatre supplemented her success in a listed bumper at Navan last month on what was her initial start over flights. Whilst her jumping wasn’t exactly faultless, Lyrical Theatre still responded to pressure to lead inside the final 50 yards to beat Annagh Haven by a length. Lyrical Theatre will now be faced with a step up in class over hurdles.
