Ninety-three bogus calls to Emergency

Emergency services in County Waterford responded to a high number of bogus calls during the past year, a meeting of Waterford Co. Council was told in Dungarvan.

Chief Fire Officer Michael Hession said the services responded to 93 false alarms up to the end of November. It was estimated that they would deal with a total of 865 emergencies this year compared to 1,056 in 2009. The reduction in operational activity for 2010 remained on target to exceed 5%. New Fire Station Officers had been appointed in Portlaw, Tallow and Ardmore, he explained.
