No encouragement on university front

Minister Martin offered little by way of encouragement when asked about Waterford’s university prospects. He trotted out the usual government line about WIT punching above its weight and the quality of its graduates being more important that the college name.

As for any plans by Cabinet to trigger Section 9 of the Universities Act in order to set in motion the upgrading process, he swerved the issue by saying he was not going to pre-empt his colleague, Education Minister Mary Hanafin.
