Hooded individuals, also wearing black bags over their heads, attacked a pizza delivery man in Larchville on Sunday last.

A pizza delivery man has been treated in hospital after he was hit over the head with a bottle during a robbery in Larchville on Sunday night.
The man (29) had been approaching an unoccupied house after a call was made requesting a pizza, shortly after 8.30pm, when four or five youths wearing hoodies and black bags over their heads ran from the centre of the estate and attacked him.
The victim was struck on the head with a bottle and he fell to the ground.
He was struck again whilst lying on the ground. Two Apple iPhone 4s and some pizzas were taken from him.
Some of his assailants then ran off in the direction of Paddy Brownes Road. The man was brought by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford where he was treated for cuts and bruising to his face and head.
Meanwhile, the bravery of a Garda who rescued a man from the River Suir on Friday last represents the third such occasion that the officer in question has saved a person in such difficulty.
It’s believed that Garda Dave Hearne, a native of Fethard-on- Sea, jumped into the Suir after witnessing a man leap into the river from Rice Bridge, saving the man’s life in the process.
In 2008, Garda Hearne was awarded the Michael Heffernan Bronze Medal for marine gallantry after he rescued two men on the same day, from the Suir and John’s River.
“He’s a fantastic man and a great ambassador for the force,” said a reader who called us on Monday morning to discuss his heroism.
“The Gardaí in Waterford don’t always get a great press, but such bravery deserves to be referenced this week. The force is lucky to have men like Dave in their ranks.”
