Ploughing Championships
The 2008 national Ploughing Championships are being co-hosted this week by Robert and Ann Woodcock and Paddy and Ann Barry at Farmley in Cuffesgrange, Co. Kilkenny. This year, as in other years, all available stand space is taken up and has been for a number of months, with a number of companies coming in from England and Europe.
This year’s event will feature 900 exhibitors, 300 competitors and 150,000 people attending the 600 acre site. The 3 day event is classed as one of Europe’s leading Machinery Exhibitions with the full range of World Market agricultural equipment, such as tillage, sowing, fertilizing, grassland and excavation etc., equipment on display. Some companies will also have demonstration sites to exhibit their latest machinery and technology.
Waterford will be represented among the 300 competitors taking part over the National Ploughing Championships. These competitors would not be successful without the backing of generous sponsors. Waterford Ploughing Association is very much appreciated of that support and sponsorship throughout the year and look forward to their help and generosity in the years to come.
This year Waterford will be represented by the following competitors: Senior: Thomas Kirwan, Kill. Intermediate: Philip Murphy, Dunhill. Under 28: Paul Kirwan, Kill. Farmerette: Helena Hynes, Clashmore. Three Furrow Open: James Prendergast, Ardmore. Under 28 Reversible: Richard Houlihan, Dungarvan. Standard 3 Furrow Reversible: James O’Neill, Knockanore. Single Furrow Vintage: Oliver Power, Newtown. Two Furrow Vintage Trailer: Liam Prendergast, Ballysaggart.
