St Brigid’s – Simply The Best

Dear Sir,

Like many Irish hospitals St Patrick’s has many nationalities on the staff – Irish, Scottish, English, Portugal, India, Poland etc., but they could well have been picked by a master computer as they fit in so well. Like their Irish colleagues they also felt the pain of each cut and levy. They joined in the general protest but showed their true colours by ensuring that it was business as usual when it came to patient care. The happy air was absent one autumn morning when a visit courtesy of the health information and quality was announced. The pessimism predicted another ward closure just like St Brigid’s Ward. When lunchtime arrived the prophets of doom grew in number when the inspector joined the lads only table. The best person to put the patients case was absent and two fairly volatile characters when together for any length of time ended up side by side. All was well as the super six played a blinder and the worried frowns were replaced with smiles. One wonders if the visit had been during the big freeze which saw deliveries’ of ice cream off the menu what would have been the outcome? Good fortune favours the brave. The closure of St Brigid’s must be revisited so that justice is seen to be done.
