European Bronze

What a phenomenal achievement for Presentation’s Niamh Whelan, (Ferrybank AC), as she took bronze in the 100 metre event at the recent European Youth Olympics which were held in Serbia. Niamh won the bronze in a personal best time of 11.87. A very bright future beckons for this wonderful young athlete and we wish her all the success in the world.

ComeraghCycling Club

St. Paul’s based Comeragh Cycling Club are currently riding the crest of a wave with podium finishes each weekend. While club stalwart, Robin Kelly, took a creditable third Senior 1 overall in the recent Eddie Tobin Memorial, first year rider Keith Gater had an excellent race to win the Combined race at the same event. The talented rider has now been upgraded to Senior 2 status as a result. The inaugural Suir Valley 3 Day took place over the Bank Holiday weekend and again, a fantastic weekend for the local club. 19 year old Mark Nugent, another of our first year riders, showed his raw talent in winning the Senior 3 Red Jersey. This was an outstanding achievement in what was Mark’s first ever stage event especially when he finished an incredible 6 minutes ahead of his nearest category rider. Robin Kelly rode an exceptional event and was a worthy winner of the Stage 4 white jersey. Good to see Ciaran Power getting back to form after his recent illness. He recorded 2nd and 3rd placings on two of the stages. Well done to all concerned.

Sunday Club

The Larchville/Lisduggan Sunday Club held its annual outing on Saturday, July 14th last, and were blessed with rare sunshine for that day. The group took a cruise at New Ross, followed by music and craic in Mullinavat. The Sunday club meets monthly and will start up again in September. The group is supported by the Larchville/Lisduggan CDP.
